Double elimination in darts
Double elimination gives every player a loser's bracket — you need to lose twice to be out. It's fairer, and considerably more work to run.
How it works
Every player starts in the winners' bracket. Lose once, and you drop into a losers' bracket instead of going home. Lose there too, and you're out. The eventual final can even pit a once-beaten finalist against an undefeated one.
The trade-off
It rewards consistency over a single bad leg — but it roughly doubles the number of matches and the bracket-tracking work for whoever's running the night, which is exactly what gets messy on a paper sheet.
